Neuroradiology Fellowship
The Neuroradiology Fellowship Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a comprehensive academic and clinical experience covering the full continuum of neuroradiology. The program incorporates core training as well as research opportunities for an optimal training experience. Completion of the ACGME-accredited program prepares physicians for a career in private practice, academics or research, and eligibility for Certification of Added Qualification by the American Board of Radiology.
Program Curriculum
The attending physicians have important roles in education and provide one-on-one training to develop the skills essential for becoming progressively independent in the performance and interpretation of all neuroradiologic imaging studies and invasive procedures. With a ratio of 5 attending physicians and only one fellow, we are able to offer faculty committed to providing an excellent and personal educational experience. Our goal is to develop competent physicians who are able to practice independently and who will dedicate themselves to the deliver of quality medical care throughout their careers. Program Overview
The program provides a comprehensive training experience in the full range of neuroradiology under faculty supervision. Interventional procedures including angioplasty and vascular stenting, spinal procedures, embolizations, and plain diagnostic angioplasty are only a few of many procedures the fellow will participate and perform. Call Responsibilities
Call activities provide fellows with continuity of patient care experience. Pager call is assigned for one week each month. Fellows taking at-home call are provided with 1 day in 7 completely free from all educational and clinical responsibilities, averaged over a 4 week period.
Participation on Institutional Committees
Fellows are encouraged to participate on committees whose actions may impact the quality of their education and patient care experience and to gain knowledge of committee operations.
- The Housestaff Executive Committee is comprised of residents and fellows. Two housestaff members from each department are appointed as representatives. The committee holds bi-monthly meetings throughout the academic year to discuss housestaff issues.
- The Fellowship Committee, consisting of the neuroradiology attending faculty and the fellow, meet twice yearly to provide a venue to address the quality of teaching, make improvements to the curriculum, provide support, and strengthen the program.
Core Competencies
The neuroradiology fellowship provides educational experiences following guidelines set forth for programs accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education. Core competencies provide evidence of preparing competent physicians who can meet the healthcare needs of the public, and provide evidence of the program's effectiveness in preparing competent fellows for practice.
Fellows are required to demonstrate competence in six core areas to the level expected of a new practitioner:
- Patient Care
- Medical Knowledge
- Practice-based learning and Improvement
- Interpersonal and Communication skills
- Professionalism
- System-based practice
