Whole Body CT Screening

Your physician has requested a whole-body computer tomography (CT) screening procedure for you. CT scans use X-ray technology and advanced computer analysis to create detailed pictures of the body. This procedure may provide the earliest detection for cancer and other abnormalities in the chest, abdomen and pelvis. At Cedars-Sinai's S. Mark Taper Foundation Imaging Center, we have a team of physicians, nurses and technologists led by Cindy Kallman, MD, Chief, CT Scan and Ultrasound, who specialize in CT.

The screening procedure is a 15-minute test that produces multiple images of the chest, abdomen and pelvis. Using sophisticated computer technology, we can quickly and painlessly obtain high-quality pictures. If any abnormalities are identified, the imaging physician will discuss them with your referring physician.

Before Arriving for Your Procedure

You may want to avoid clothing with buttons, zippers or snaps. You will be asked to change into a patient gown if you are wearing any of these items.

Although the scan takes about 15 minutes, plan to be at your appointment for 30 to 45 minutes to allow for registration, patient evaluation and post-scan processing.

You may pay by check, cash, credit card or money order.

Insurance carriers do not cover this test; therefore, an itemized bill will not be generated for this exam.

After Arriving

You will be asked to complete a simple, one page questionnaire.

If you are wearing clothing with buttons, zippers or snaps, you will be asked to change into a patient gown.

During Your Procedure

You will lie flat on your back on the CT table and a series of pictures will be taken while you hold your breath.

The technologist will always be able to see and hear you during your exam.

The scan is painless, emitting only a small amount of radiation, similar to other diagnostic radiology procedures.

After Your Procedure

A final report will be mailed or faxed to you and your designated physician within 48 hours.

Parking Information

Valet parking is available in front of the Imaging center from 7:30am-5:00pm.

For self parking, please enter parking lot P4, located at the corner of San Vicente Blvd. and 3rd Street. The entrance is on San Vicente Blvd.

If you are arriving after 5:00pm, please park in parking lot P1, located off of George Burns Rd. between Beverly Blvd. and Alden Dr. The entrance is off of George Burns Rd.

Partially validated parking at a cost of $4.00 is provided to our imaging patients for valet and self parking in the lots mentioned above.

Please Note: We do not validate for parking lots in the Medical Office Towers located at 8631 and 8635 W. 3rd St.
