Selecting the correct antibiotic to give a patient before surgery is essential to preventing infection as a complication of surgery.
Infections may be caused by a wide variety of organisms. Some types of infections are more common with certain types of surgeries than with others. Selecting the correct antibiotic before surgery to prevent infections is key in assuring that a patient has a rapid and uncomplicated recovery from surgery.

A higher number is better than a lower number.
